Looking Ahead
Each year East West editors and staff literally smash together our collective knowledge of popular culture, industry, sports, politics and world events and wait for the result to emerge: our annual list of ten to watch in the coming year. This year's, or shall I say next year's, 10 to Watch List is here.
As always, it was hard to limit the list to just ten, as there are many more individuals on the radar. And one particular discussion from earlier in December, as we finalized the list (which was officially announced on December 11th), is now somewhat haunting. We discussed whether or not it would be appropriate to add Pakistan to the list. While not a person, we felt the country itself should be noted as a nation that would somehow impact our world in 2008 and years to come. In the end, we chose to stick to the individual (or character) nature of the list. So Pakistan wasn't included.
Perhaps now Benazir Bhutto's legacy will be what we are watching in 2008...
On a happier note, I predict that East/West individuals will soar to even greater heights in 2008, so much so that we might have to expand our list to 20 or 30 or event 40 to watch for 2009. And what about us? Well, we hope you'll be watching us as well. As East West media turns 5 in May.
Happy New Year from everyone at East West!
