Bobby Jindal Wins Print E-mail
October 2007

Bobby JindalIndian American Bobby Jindal has made history.

The Republican Congressman is now the Governor-elect of Louisiana following Saturday’s state election, and Jindal, 36, will be the country’s youngest governor and the first ever South Asian American to hold the post in any state.

The Oxford-educated Jindal defeated 11 others and will be Louisiana’s first nonwhite governor since Reconstruction.

He spoke of his parents “American Dream” Saturday night after winning 53 percent of the state’s votes, with about 92 percent of the vote counted. The margin was enough for Jindal to win election outright and avoid a Nov. 17 runoff.
